Design Technology
Design and technology (D&T) is an inspiring, creative and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils will design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.
The main features of a quality D&T curriculum in primary school:
- User – keeping in mind who the product is for
- Purpose – understanding what the product will do
- Functionality – designing and making a product so it will work and encountering some problem solving to make it functional
- Design decisions – giving children opportunities to make choices
- Innovation – allowing children to be original in their thinking
- Authenticity – demonstrating a relevancy and ‘realness’ of the product to the children
The subject of Design and Technology gives children the opportunity to design and make something for someone for some reason.
