Music
At Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, music is a valued and vibrant part of our curriculum and wider school life. Rooted in our Christian ethos, music supports our commitment to nurturing the whole child by promoting creativity, confidence, joy and a strong sense of community. Through music, pupils are encouraged to express themselves, collaborate with others and develop resilience as they practise, perform and reflect.
All children in Key Stages 1 and 2 receive music lessons following the Charanga Musical School scheme, resources are kept in our spacious, well-equipped music room. This carefully structured and progressive programme ensures that all pupils experience high-quality music education through singing, listening, playing instruments, composing and performing. Music also plays a central role in collective worship and school celebrations, helping pupils to reflect, connect and grow spiritually.
Holy Trinity C of E Primary School thrives on performance opportunities, including the Christmas Nativity, candle-lit Carol Service and seasonal productions, alongside concerts and assemblies where children can share their musical achievements. Singing assembly, Choir/Singing Group, orchestra and instrumental performances further enrich musical life across the school.
Our intent is to provide a high-quality music curriculum, underpinned by the Charanga scheme, that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum while inspiring a lifelong love of music. Through a practical, inclusive and engaging approach, pupils develop their musical knowledge and skills progressively as they move through the school.
Using Charanga, pupils are taught to:
-
Sing confidently and expressively, both individually and as part of a group
-
Play tuned and untuned instruments with increasing control and accuracy
-
Listen to, explore and appraise music from a wide range of styles, genres and cultures
-
Improvise and compose music using the inter-related dimensions of music
-
Perform with confidence and pride for different audiences
Music at Holy Trinity C of E Primary School reflects our school values by encouraging care, aspiration, resilience and enjoyment. We aim for all pupils to leave our school as confident, reflective and enthusiastic musicians who appreciate the power of music to bring people together and enrich their lives.
